Product Description

ROK is a manual, non-electric espresso maker which is made from polished, high quality aluminium.
Not only does it look good but it is also environmentally friendly as the only power required is to heat the water as needed for an espresso.
Perfect for use at home or for holiday homes, caravans or on boats.
The pressure required to make the espresso is achieved with the lowering of the lever arms.
The process of lowering the arms traps air and forces water through the ground coffee at a high pressure.
All you need to do is bring some water to the boil, place coffee in the steel filter/portafilter, pour the boiling water into the chamber at the top, raise the arms to let the water filter through and lower the lever arms to brew your espresso.
That's all there is to it. A Cappuccino or latte can also be made using the stainless steel milk frother.

Formerly known as the Presso, the ROK Espresso Coffee Maker has a similar design but with strengthened alloy formulation, increased thickness of top arms, a reinforced water chamber and comes with reusable embossed metal storage tin.

4Great espresso but limited versatility
By Timbo
I've been holding off reviewing the Presso since I bought it 16 months ago. I bought it to replace my Krups coffee machiene that gave me 3 years good service and some awesome americanos - my favourite coffee.I think 4 stars is perfectly fair and I would say it is very good but not great - somethings it is awesome at, but it does have its limitations. I suspect most people looking at this review will be judging it against eletricly driven models so will this review. The big decission when buying the Presso was should I repair the Krups for x £'s or put money down for a far simpler, eco friendly product. I thought money wise it would be pretty close so got the Presso. I liked that the seperate parts could be bought directly from Presso direct. 2 Weeks ago it failed for the first time. After taking it apart (very easy) I couldn't find the problem so I ordered all the bits it could have been. Two days later it was up and running again all for £15. Nice one Presso. Other than this problem I would say the Presso is very well made.As stated I loved my americanos with the Krups making strong, tasty ones with long lasting crema - the Presso, unfortunately doesn't compare. And yes, I have tried everything. The americanos are at best tasty but never capped with crema. However... as a result I thought I'd give espresso a shot (no pun intended). This thing makes lovely, lovely expresso with thick crema and defined flavours I never appreciated before. It is very hands on and it is unforgiving - observe all the rules (fresh beans, grind, warm portafilter and cup) and experiment - (different levels of water and tamps) and it will deliver. Look on you tube for hints and tips - note I haven't seen anyone on it making americanos. The supplied milk frother is good but it doesn't offer the versatilty or 'art' of a pump driven machiene. It does make a good cappacino, very quickly - obviously microwave the milk first but deffinately not as thick and creamy as your local barista. The machine is very quick and easy to use (though hard to master). On top of this it is eco-friendly, easy to service, good looking, portable (take it to work sometimes) and less messy than any eletric machiene. If you are passionate about espresso, own a burr grinder and want to get really involved with coffee then this machiene is definately for you (5 star). If you like a cappacino and weren't really bothered about pansy 'coffee art' then again this is a great choice (4 star). If you like a variety of coffees and wanted consistant results for little effort then get yourself a pump driven machine. Oh - again if you want a great espresso or a decent cappacino then this offers excellent value for money - especially as it is so easy to repair.Sorry about the length of the review but tried to write what I wanted to know when I was looking to buy.

5Hey Press[t]o - great coffee
By tfi_nrg
I went with the Presso after doing a lot of research on the net, the conclusion of which was that most espresso machines under £400 aren't worth the money []First up, the presso is a thing of beauty. It's got something of the classic sports car about it - nice curves, a winning combination of looking modern and classic at the same time.It took me a good amount of time to perfect a shot of espresso. My top tips would be:1. A fine(ish) grind2. Tamp it really well3. Over-fill with water (this will help increase the pressure) - try and get it within c.5mm of the top of the cylinder.4. Give the coffee a bit of a soak - once you've lifted the arms, leave it for 20-30 seconds before pulling the shot. If it starts dripping, your beans aren't fine enough or you tamp isn't firm enough.5. Pull the shot6. Remove your espresso cup and then push through the excess waterOh, and don't forget to warm your espresso cups with water from the kettle. What I really love about the presso is the act of making your espresso becomes something of a ritual. I love waking up in the morning and pulling a great shot of espresso. It feels like an art, a skill to be honed. But once you've got your technique down you'll never go back to a semi-auto.The milk frother that comes with it is rubbish - I like the occasional mac and my girlfriend loves a flat white, so if I'm making one of those I use my Bodum 1446 Latteo Milk Frother - it's far superior and for less than £15 you can get a really good, fine and dense foam. The presso team clearly know what they are doing and offer great customer service. I had a problem with the plunger and the presso team were good enough to send me a new part free of charge - thanks guys.My one objection - and I don't think this is something that the presso team espouse as I couldn't find it on their website [], so I assume this is an assertion made by the seller here on Amazon - is the claim that it's "zero-electricity". Unless you don't use an electric kettle (so have a stove-top kettle or like making a log fire) you have to boil the kettle, which uses electricity. I am sure it uses less electricity than a semi- or fully-auto machine, but still...However, a brilliant product - undoubtedly my favourite kitchen gadget.

5Presso Coffee Maker
By Albireo380
This compact, manual (no electricity required) espresso maker is excellent value.Raise the handles and add boiling water to the container on the top. Depress the handles to force the hot water through the coffee grounds. (The coffee grounds go in an easily cleaned holder and slot into the presso coffee maker just below where the water is added). Raise the handles again, add little more water if required and depress again. "Hey presto", you have an excellent cup of espresso coffee.Simples : ))No hassle, no pain, just an excellent cup of coffee every time. You can vary the strength of your coffee by adding more or less coffee grounds at the start of the process - 3 teaspoonsfull will wake you up in the morning! The coffee maker appears well manufactured and is pretty robust - it should last for years.Albireo380
