This performs well and makes a coffee quickly and with the minimnum of fuss. Easy to fill up keep clean. No need for special coffee pods etc just real coffee

Great Espresso - With a few Quirks

My fiancée originally purchased my machine from the Amazon marketplace, however the frother was faulty (it never, ever worked) and every espresso I made had a good 1-2cm of foam (not the elusive espresso 'crema') so we contacted Morphy Richards to see if they would exchange/repair.To our complete surprise, they said as long as we provided proof of purchase, we would be sent a new machine and were told not to ship the faulty one back, but to dispose of it safely. We didn't want to throw away a perfectly working (apart from the froth 'wand') coffee machine, so it's now at my future brother-in-law's house functioning as a standard coffee maker! The moral of the story is that Morphy Richards' customer care is brilliant, so do get in contact with them if your machine doesn't work properly.Regarding the machine itself, it fits in with the rest of our purple-accented kitchen perfectly (which was at least part of the reason for buying it!), and comes with a good selection of accessories (the combined scoop/tamper is a great idea). It's surprisingly dinky for a coffee machine (the whole unit is not much bigger than a kettle), so it should fit into the tightest of spaces. The only thing missing (and this is just being picky) is a single-spout, double-size basket, for those who have smaller shot-size espresso mugs and want a double-size shot - mine doesn't fit under both spouts, so I have to use either a larger cup or my preferred option of coffee-house style glass shot-glasses, which are emptied into my mug.As pointed out in another review, the steam wand is a bit on the poky side - it took a good minute or two to heat a cup of milk (by which time the coffee it was supposed to go in had gone cold), however as an espresso maker, it's a solid little machine, though it does have a few quirks that future purchasers should be aware of, especially if this is your first foray into the world of espresso makers - which was certainly true for me.Firstly, after unboxing, fill the water tank slightly (just under a quarter should do) and go through the coffee-making process, but without any coffee grounds in the basket. Switch the unit on, wait for the left-hand light to come on, and run the machine for a good 30 seconds to 1 minute (or until your water tank is about empty) to prime the system and flush out any impurities from the manufacturing process and any dust/grime from shipping, and do the same for the steam wand (though for safety, hold a jug of cold water under the wand).Secondly - and I can't stress this enough - your machine is only as good as your coffee. Do not buy ground coffee that is marked "for all coffee makers", but instead buy proper "espresso" grounds - I'm not too sure of the exact differences (though I think espresso grounds are finer, so coupled with the point below, you can tamp them harder and make a stronger coffee), but the difference in the result is immediately obvious, even to an amateur like me!Thirdly, tamp your grounds well. The tighter your grounds are packed together, the more force needs to be put into pumping water through them, so the end result is a wonderfully rich espresso with the 'creama' that so many aficionados crave. Don't be afraid to put some welly behind it (in the beginning I was under the impression you just filled the basked and tamped lightly to level it off) - you'll be surprised at the difference it makes!

Decent coffee maker, excellent for the price

Got this to replace an old Gaggia.No trouble to set up and works just fine. Not quite as automated as some of the more expensive machines, but I can't fault the coffee.
