Awesome product. Though initially I thought otherwise.

I was ready to send it back the first few times after using as the coffee seemed to come through too quickly and the valve seemed to be blocked. But the key is 7 grams and 20 seconds. This supposedly gives the best results but is pretty much just glanced over in the manual. What i had been doing is putting espresso coffee grinds into the pod up to the top then tamping a little the end of a spoon. What I should have been doing is getting approx 7 grams of coffee into the pod this is a lot of coffee to fit into the little basket and needs a lot of tamping with a proper tamper. If you just put coffee in and tamp a little you are probably just putting about 4 or 5 grams in. What happens is there is not enough resistance to maintain the pressure in the pod and it "blows out" the valve. In real terms you get an enormous squirt of coffee then it stops suddenly. If you look elsewhere many people are returning these because they're getting this behaviour. But this is not a fault of the unit, it is a user fault. When you tamp/cram 7 grams of coffee into the basket, this takes a lot of tamping, you will not get the "blow out" and you will get excellent pressure for approx over 30 seconds with plenty pressure left to spare. The coffee will come through in approx 20 s and then you get results as good as any £2000 coffee machine. So , invest in a proper tamper. And the first few times weigh 7 grams to get an idea of how much coffee that is. Then you will get stunning results. Extremely well designed and well made product. Awesome.

Teething troubles, but great thereafter

This is a beautifully engineered piece of kit and really deserves to do well. I know a few engineers who might have come up with the idea after a few too many strong coffees, but the move into production with such a quality product shows application on an altogether higher plane.Now the proviso:I watched the video carefully and followed the instructions to the letter when I first tried the unit. Other Amazon reviewers offered excellent advice, and this was duly noted.I was really disappointed when I first used the Domepod. I could not get the lid to seal properly - in common with other reviewers. I followed their advice and cleaned the area around the sealing ring. I tried the spare sealing ring that was included in the box. All this was to no avail. After trying three different grinds of coffee and lots of different amounts of tamping, I gave up and telephoned Fairfax Coffee, from whom I bought the unit. Since I hadn't obviously done anything wrong, it was decided that I should return the Domepod for inspection.It took about two weeks for them to look at it, but at last I had the report: It was comprehensive, and pretty thorough.Perplexingly, but not entirely unexpectedly, they had found nothing wrong with it. I had included samples of the coffee I was using and these had seemingly worked without any issue.Great relief when I got the unit back and it worked beautifully at the first try. I can't be sure, but I don't think the lid was fitted when I first unpacked it. I fitted it before sending the Domepod back. Perhaps the seal bedded itself in during its fortnight's holiday.So: not easy, but great when you finally get it working! I could easily have sent it back for a refund and slammed it with a one star rating, but I'm pleased I persevered.

Just what you need for your camping trip

A brilliantly designed product. I bought one to take camping. Where would you be in the morning without a real coffee?!Works really quickly (once you have the boiled water) and feels a quality product.
