Excellent piece of kit

My wife's beloved Senseo finally gave up the ghost after many years of faithful service and I decided to replace it with something a little more upmarket. Extensive research online suggested that the Nespresso system was the way to go and as my wife loves pixies here we are. I opted for the combo pack with the Aerocino despite negative reviews about the latter becuase this is bundled with the Aerocino 3 which suggests that some development and ironing out of faults has taken place between 1 and 3.The Pixie is very smart and Magimix's steel blue is much more attractive than the blue of the Krups version, it looks expensive rather than gaudy. In real life it is like the blue/grey favoured by BMW and Audi. The footprint of the machine is very small, only 12 inches from front to back and 4.5 inches wide so it is not difficult to find space for it on your worktop. Unlike the Citiz machine the Aerocino comes as a freestanding unit which although necessitating another plug socket also means you can put it where you want (away?) and retain that small footprint.The Pixie was ready to produce coffee in about 30 seconds. Nothing could be simpler. You put water in the reservoir at the back, drop a coffee capsule in the top, press the button and delicious coffee comes out of the nozzle at the front. If you don't like the default settings you can programme the buttons to deliver a bigger espresso or lungo. It is simply a matter of holding down the button until you have poured the desired amount. I did this whilst flushing out the machine before first usage. The machine needs descaling every 1000 litres but I reckon that could be delayed by using filtered water and you'll get a better cup of coffee.Coffee has to be bought from Nespresso either online, by post, over the phone or at one of their 'boutiques', there are three in London. The basic espressos are 27p per capsule but you do have to buy a minimum of 50. Opt for standard postage, my first order came in 48 hours. The machine is bundled with 16 capsules, one of each coffee, so you can try them all. I don't drink coffee but my wife is absolutely delighted exclaiming that what the Senseo produced satisfactorily for so many years isn't even in the same league and as for instant? Open a jar of instant coffee and smell the difference, ours doesn't even smell of coffee (Tesco Gold).The Aerocino is supposed to make foamed milk for cappucinos in 70 seconds but in effect takes a little longer. It was demonstrated to us with the top off and doesn't splash or spray but the foam will be noticeably hotter if you put the lid on. It makes enough foam for one cappucino but it is all foam. If you prefer something a little more substantial or a flat white then just swirl it around a bit in the Aerocino to return some of the foam to hot milk. Once used the machine is easily rinsed out and dried with no evidence of anything burning on the bottom. The inside is coated with a good quality non-stick teflon type finish with markings for foam or hot milk.Sadly it doesn't make hot chocolate so I am left out of the enjoyment of this machine. The only downside we have found is that the used capsules drop into a little box inside and if you don't empty it soon enough when you put in a new capsule it can foul on the last one disposed of and get damaged thereby wasting it. They are made of aluminium so are easily damageable. The capsules are recyclable in Europe at specialist Nespresso location but here they go in your recycling bin.In summary this is an excellent little coffee maker that is the next best thing to a proper espresso machine and the little extra cost and effort required in buying the coffee capsules is more than justified. My neighbour's Nespresso machine has outlasted both hers and our Senseo.

Quite stunning

I was finally persuaded to invest in a Nespresso when I found out that they had a capsule recycling scheme in London. I have to take them in a bag to Selfridges, but at least it's a start.I thought I'd wait a month before reviewing my Pixie with Aeroccinno in case there were some gotchas hiding somewhere. There weren't - this is a wonderful product. Highlights: - really fast warmup, and you can just press the button and walk away - it will deliver when ready - Aeroccinno with the "more foamy" and "less foamy" attachments - we use both - coffee is hot (I was a bit worried it wouldn't be) - tiny footprint on our very crowded kitchen counter - Aeroccinno as a separate device in case it goes wrong, needs repair etcThe whole setup has a very solid feel so I'm pretty confident that I'll still be a deliriously happy, extremely wired, customer for many months to come.

ONLY HAD THIS MACHINE A FEW DAYS AND I LOVE IT . IT HAS A VERY SIMPLE DESIGN BUT HAS REAL QUALITY FEEL TO IT . COMPONENTS ARE EASILY REMOVED , CLEANED AND REFITTED . SPARE ATTACHMENT HOUSED IN DOMED LID ON STAND . THE SET COMES WITH 16 DIFFERENT COFFEE PODS TO TRY WITH BOOKLETS DESCRIBING TASTES . EASILY UNDERSTOOD INSTRUCTIONS . A BIT OF EXPERIMENTATION TO FIND COFFEE FLAVOUR FAVOURITE AND STRENGHTS IS NECESSARY TO FIND PERSONAL BEST TASTE BUT GREAT FUN TASTING .
