Pricey but (probably) worth it

I bought this machine a few months ago via Amazon after nearly buying in the Selfridges winter 2012 sale (10% off RRP).Amazon had it being sold out of Germany via a 3rd party company. The original model sent had an inherent fault and I ended up wasting many an hour trying to fix it. Jura UK were good and offered their usual warranty cover although they officially say they don't cover grey market imports (although this can be challenged via EU law). Anyway after a couple of trips to Jura HQ, they decided to send me a new machine that works fine and has done for the past 7 months.The good:The coffee is excellent. I had an old Gaggia Classic but it was such a faff. This is one touch instant grind brilliance. Lovely crema on the espressos. The black coffees are great. Yummy cappuccinos. Seriously good quality stuff and all adjustable to taste - strength of coffee, volume of espresso, amount of water in a black coffee, milk temperature etc etc etc.... And the machine tells you what to do -- fill beans, change filter, empty grounds, clean the machine etc.... and the process is straightforward. Hopefully the prompts and ease of use will keep it running for a few years.The bad:This does not feel like a £1400 coffee machine. All the chrome is actually plastic rather than metal. The only metal component is the cup stand at the base of the machine. If you are paying £1400 then you expect a machine made of metal and potentially more durable.My first model had a fault that took 3 trips to the Jura service centre before they finally gave me a new machine - doesn't say very much about build quality does it?The prompting can be wrong at times - if you have ad hoc emptied the grounds or emptied the drips from the tray, you will still be prompted after a few more coffees. I think there is a counter for number of espesso shots ground before tray needs empting -- and this does not reset when empty early.The water tank. Why not either have an external display so you can see how much water is left before making your coffee or have an electronic sensor to say --- can't make double americano as we will run out of water half way through.The tank sits inside the machine and its not possible to tell how much water is left without taking it out.Overall:The coffee is great (now I have a machine that works) but it is a little cheap in quality for the price.
