Product Description

Has there ever been a coffee system in more dire need of re-invention than the drip system? It’s almost become a synonym for bitter, bad tasting coffee. Well, no more. There is a whole new thinking behind the BISTRO electric coffee dripper, the convenience of it being the only common ground. Let’s start with the removable water tank: due to a powerful spiral heating element the water comes close to a boil and - with a glass pipe transporting it over to the coffee filter - doesn’t lose much heat. The water gets distributed evenly over the ground coffee through an easy to clean shower head made of plastic and silicone at an ideal temperature of well over 90ºC. The filter – titanium-plated stainless steel and finely meshed – keeps the coffee pure in taste, no paper filter needed. From here the coffee drips into a plastic thermos with a double-wall stainless steel interior and stays warm, no heating element needed. The thermos comes with a spout that keeps the heat where it belongs: with an easy press of a finger it opens only for pouring.

Lovely tasting coffee from a nice looking appliance

Ok, so its a lot of money for what is effectively just a filter coffee machine, but the coffee is lovely and hot and does taste good in comparison with our old coffee machine that broke. This is attributed to the fact that the coffee flask is insulated and the coffee does not site and brew on a hotplate for hours (tasting stewed) and also that the coffee filtration uses a sizable component which means the water can filter evenly through the coffee, rather than a small trickle from usual machines. Also, you cannot use paper filters in this machine as it comes with this 'special' gold colour filter tray that has materials that are supposed to make the coffee taste better. To be fair, this is my only complaint as I don't like the brown gritty like 'stuff' at the bottom of a mug which filter coffee leaves when you don't use a paper filter. It is a nice looking machine, it is way, way quicker than a usual filter coffee machine so no hanging around for your coffee. It could benefit from a timer but its not a deal breaker. Glad we went with this option after we did a bit of research on different coffee machines.

Total waste of money

Do not waste £200 on this item. It is totally unsuitable for its task. 100% style over 0% substance. The build quality is poor and parts have snapped off under normal usage conditions. It is not able to make a pot of more than 4 cups without wet coffee grains spilling all over the unit and this is not acceptable for an machine that is supposed to make 10 cups. I complained to Bodum and was told i had to take it up with the retailer.

Bought it even though it had mixed reviews. So glad I did. Keeps coffee nice and hot in jug. Very easy to use an clean. Don't over fill the coffee filter and use finely ground coffee. Perfect coffee every time.
