5Makes great coffee. Love the insulated caraffe. Well designed. Slightly quirky design..
By Nigelcat
The Pros:The most important thing to say about this coffee maker is that it makes really good coffee. The way that it grinds and brews the coffee is key to this. It tastes very good indeed. The carrafe does keep the coffee hot for a very long time and is a huge plus point. The coffee maker seems well designed and built. I know a few others have commented about how you have to upturn the coffee pot when pouring, but this quirky feature takes nothing away from what is a great coffee maker. The Cons:Compared to some much more basic machines, it does seem like you need to use a larger volume of coffee beans to brew 10 cups of decent strength of coffee. This may be explained by the way the grinder produces a slightly more coarse coffee grind than pre-ground coffee. I was surprised to see that the grinder blades seem quite blunt. The fact that the coffee maker does allow you to choose a slower rate of water dripping on to the grounds for 1-4 cups, suggests that the designers were aware of this. If you select this feature when brewing a full pot it seems to make full strength coffee. As others have suggested, you will need to clean and dry the two parts of the removable grinding container before each brew. Its almost not worth mentioning, but I suppose the more casual coffee drinker might find this more trouble than its worth. I just rinse them under the tap and dry them with a towel. It takes about 15 seconds and really isn't a big deal, particulary considering that you will need to rise the filter basket anyway, just as you would on any coffee maker. The grinder itself seems really robust though.I think the quality of the coffee, the insulated caraffe, the grind and brew feature and the build quality justifie the price. So it gets five stars from me.

5Makes wonderful coffee
By Mr. N. Goward
All we wanted was a machine which enables us to take the beans out of the freezer put them in the machine and end up with a perfect cup of coffee a few seconds later and that's what we got. Along with Blue Sumatra coffee beans from Costa Rica Coffee co. we have what we wanted - freshly made coffee that tastes like coffee smells. Beautiful.Yes the jug is difficult to pour, yes it is a fag to have to wash everything after every grind but it's worth it.

3Hugely disappointing
By Ian1944
We bought this coffee maker in order to have freshly brewed coffee (2 mugs) first thing in the morning (by using the programmed brewing facility) with the intention of still having hot coffee (another 2 mugs) ready for use 3-4 hours later for mid morning break. Sadly, despite returning the first unit because the coffee wasn't hot enough (Cuisinart Customer Service suggested the first unit might have had a faulty thermostat) and obtaining a replacement, there was no appreciable improvement. We even measured the temperature of the freshly brewed coffee (using a digital thermometer) and at 74C, it was 'hot' but certainly not 'piping hot'.On the plus side, the unit brews fabulous coffee, with filtered water (filter in unit), and is just about hot enough if you pour it and drink it straight-away. And because is uses a thermal flask, there is no question of stewing the coffee if it sits for a while, but you would then need to add warm milk or possibly warm up your coffee in a microwave to get it warm enough. Far too much hassle! The instructions say that to keep your coffee hotter longer, you should first warm the jug by filling with boiling water. Fine, if you don't want piping hot, automatically brewed fresh coffee first thing in the morning. This rather defeats the object of having a programmable brew time. However, if you brew the maximum 10 cups you do get a better result; the larger volume of hot brewed coffee then needs to give up less of its heat to warm up the jug (as an alternative to pre-heating with boiling water). So, if you want a large quantity of excellent, freshly-brewed, hot coffee for drinking now or within the next 1-2 hours, by all means choose a Cusisinart coffee maker, but go for a simpler machine and forget about the programmer.
